The four-year-old daughter of Sea the Stars quickly progressed into one of the most exciting horses in training last season. She made her first start in a maiden at Newmarket but was very green and flashed her tail at times, which ultimately saw her beaten a neck by Ceilidhs Dream. Following this she was stepped up to Listed class and put in a very impressive performance to readily win by two lengths at Newbury. This performance saw her put in a much more professional performance than on her debut.
Another listed race victory followed for Sea of Class as she won very comfortably by three lengths, landing short odds of 30/100 for connections. This was another performance that indicated she was destined for top class honours. Her following start she was sent to contest the Irish Oaks at the Curragh, which meant a huge step up to Group One level. Her jockey James Doyle again kept her at the back of the field before she made eye catching headway on the outside of the field. She then ran on very strongly under hands and heels to lead close to home. This was a huge step up for the filly and one that indicated she was a very special horse.
The next start for the horse was contesting the Group One Darley Yorkshire Oaks, as the horse was sent off as the 7/4 favourite. This was possibly the most impressive performance of her short career as she oozed class throughout the contest. Sea of Class made smooth headway and quickened clear from the field to win very impressively by just over two lengths. This resulted in her posting an RPR of 120, meaning she is without a doubt one of the stars of Flat racing at present.
Her final start of the season saw her contest the Qatar Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, in which she was sent off the joint second favourite at 6/1. She was drawn very wide and had to sit at the back of the field. This meant she could not get a clear run and had to be switched over a furlong out. Despite this she ran on very strongly and was only beaten a short neck by the winner Enable. You would have to say she was a very unlucky loser in the end and will be hoping to go one better this season. Can she firstly land the Royal Ascot contest?
